Do you ever wake up feeling restless and rushed during the week? When the alarm goes off at 6am, I check my phone to catch up on the news and browse instagram (internet, what did I miss??), then I make coffee, take the dog to the park, maybe prepare breakfast for my husband, wash up, grab whatever from my closet, and head out the door for work. There have been times when I catch my reflection in the bathroom mirror at the office and wish I had spent more time on myself that morning to look more polished and rested. It can be challenging to get enough sleep and balance family, work, and self throughout the week. Regardless of how busy we get, there are steps we can all add to our morning routine to make easing into the day a little gentler during the week.
- Pick out your outfit the night before (one less thing to do in the morning!)
- Meal prep the night before so you can grab and go the next day.
- Wake up thirty minutes earlier than you usually do. This might allow for a little more alone time in the morning.
- Set your alarm to play a song that boosts your mood rather than an annoying tone.
- Don’t check your phone! I know it’s hard, but it can totally wait.
- Pull on something cozy like a robe or oversized top.
- Play soothing music while you get ready
- Light a candle with a pick-me-up scent like citrus or lavender
- Re-hydrate your body with a glass of water while your coffee or tea brews.
- Eat a simple, nutritious breakfast – it’s important to fuel your body for the day
- Set your intentions for the day.
