Acne-prone skin #struggles
I‘m in my 30s and I still have occasional breakouts, usually from hormonal changes, stress, or eating too much sugar. I have acne-prone skin and for many years, I used to struggle with severe cystic acne. Believe me, I’ve tried eeeeverything, from Accutane (5x) to all kinds of pimple creams.
I’m now a huge believer that diet and stress can trigger breakouts for many of us with acne-prone skin. When it comes to treating blemishes, it’s not just about skincare. It’s also about eating foods that fight inflammation and finding ways to manage stress. As much as we try, it’s really hard to always eat a “perfect” diet, and sometimes… our hormones get the better of us. So when those pesky pimples arrive (even in our 20s and 30s), I recommend investing in a good ‘ol spot treatment and purifying mask.
In today’s post, I’m sharing 3 of my favorite purifying masks for acne-prone skin. Are you an adult who still gets breakouts? This post is for you!
BLOOMEFFECTS – Dutch Dirt Mask
First of all, I love the name. The Dutch Dirt Mask is both an exfoliating scrub and a detoxifying mask to help clear out pores and clarify skin. It’s made with botanical plant extracts, fruit enzymes, and Dutch tulips farmed in the Netherlands. The texture feels like mud (hence the name) but it feels luxurious, is gentle, nourishing, and has antioxidant-rich ingredients.
How to use it: Leave on for 10-20 minutes as a facial mark or use an exfoliating scrub. Recommended for oily, acne-prone, and combination skin.
Checks all my boxes: Their products are ethically-sourced, cruelty free, and free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and fragrance. On top of that, their
packaging is 100% recyclable and made out of 100% recyclable materials and
they work directly with Dutch farmers who are committed to sustainable agriculture.

Wab-Sabi Botanicals – Valley of Light
This is my holy grail exfoliating and brightening mask. I did a full review on a few other Wabi-Sabi products here and I’m a total #1 fan. Formulated for sensitive and acne-prone skin, Wabi-Sabi is essential oil-free and made with gentle and hydrating ingredients.
This mask looks and smells like brownie mix, but it’s a powder facial mask and brightening exfoliant. Made with raw, volcanic Balinese Cacao and an adaptogenic Mushroom Complex, it helps promote radiant skin and gives you a smooth, plump appearance. This mask is clay free and is formulated with caffeine-rich Balinese Coffee and Guarana fruit and natural alpha-hydroxy-acids from Hibiscus that gently exfoliate and leave skin bright and even.

Kara Maree – Tumeric + Witch Hazel Clay Mask
I love the Turmeric + Witch Hazel Clay Mask from this little indie clean beauty brand, Kara Maree! This LA-based skincare brand is family-owned and was inspired by their Creole and Trinidadian family culture.
I usually don’t like clay masks, as they can be a bit drying. But this mask is formulated for all skin types, including those prone to irritation. Created with dead sea clay, turmeric, tea tree oil, lavender oil, and which hazel, this 15 minute mask leaves my skin looking glowy, hydrated, and healthy after, especially the next day!

This was a lovely post, Clara! I struggle with acne in my 30s too, so I’ve put all of these masks on my wishlist.
