So… what is vegan + cruelty-free beauty?
A product is labeled “vegan” if it contains no animal products or by-products. You can see a list of animal ingredients commonly found in cosmetics in this article by Ethical Elephant. Cruelty-free means that none of the products were tested on animals.
Vegan beauty is great, admirable, and ethical in many respects! But just because a product is vegan doesn’t necessarily mean that its free of harmful and synthetic ingredients (like Parabens). Just make sure to double-check the ingredient list! If vegan and cruelty-free are in line with your personal values, keep reading for some skincare mask options!
Purifying Masks
Lani – Tropical Cacao Detox Mask
This clay-based product is great for dessert-lovers because it dangerously smells like brownie mix. It comes in power form and once water is added, it activates the ingredients and turns it into a mousse-like consistency. It works to deep clean your pores and draw out toxins, and it gives you an overall enjoyable sensory experience.
Skin Type // acne-prone, oily, or combination skin
Superstar Ingredients // It’s rich in antioxidants from raw cacao and creamy coconut milk. Pink and Beige Australian Clay work to deep-clean pores and draw out toxins, while aloe vera, turmeric, and vitamin C tone and tighten your complexion.
Bloom Effects – Dutch Dirt Mask
This Danish mask also works as an exfoliating scrub and a detoxifying mask to help clear out pores and clarify skin. The texture feels like mud (hence the name) but it feels luxurious, is gentle, nourishing, and has antioxidant-rich ingredients.
Skin Type // Recommended for oily, acne-prone, and combination skin.
Superstar Ingredients // It’s made with botanical plant extracts, fruit enzymes, and Dutch tulips farmed in the Netherlands. On top of being V and CF, it’s also made out of 100% recyclable materials!

Brightening + Exfoliating Masks
Wabi Sabi Botanicals – Light Reveal
This 2-in-1 powder facial mask and brightening exfoliant is a solution for uneven skin tone and texture, hyper-pigmentation, dullness, and blemishes. This California-based skincare line is a personal favorite of mine because their ingredient list is unique, effective, and gentle. Check out a recent post I wrote about the brand here.
Skin Type // All skin types but especially formulated for sensitive and stressed skin.
Superstar Ingredients // Raw, volcanic Balinese Cacao and an adaptogenic Mushroom Complex boosts skin radiance, smoothes, and plumps skin. Caffeine-rich Balinese Coffee, Guarana fruit, and natural alpha-hydroxy-acids from Hibiscus gently exfoliate and leave skin bright and even.
Biossance – squalane + glycolic renewal facial
This crowd favorite mask works to exfoliate, reduce fine lines, and treat discoloration and large pores. It’s a peel, exfoliator, and mask! Leaves my skin feeling smooth and fresh. Reminder: Don’t over-exfoliate – only use 1x a week or every other week!
Skin Types // Aging, combination, acne-prone skin. Patch test first if you have sensitive skin.
Superstar Ingredients // Glycolic, lactic, malic and tartaric acids renew and brighten skin. Fine mineral spheres gently polish to smooth and soften. Squalane and hyaluronic acid plump and hydrate.
